Simon was born, beginning a life that would touch many hearts.
Moved to his new home of San Rafael
Simon left Canada to pursue his dream of working at ILM in Marin, in 1995, starting in their commercials division
Career milestone
First movie credit: Men In Black. Simon worked on building the iconic 'supercar' in Men In Black. It took him months to build, and he eventually ended up purchasing the '87 Ford Crown Vic from the ILM studio after the movie was released, making it one of his favourite 'toys'
Special achievement
Simon won a VES Award for his work on the Samson Model in 2009's Avatar.
Passed away
Simon passed away doing what he loved - Snowboarding - at Heavenly Ski Resort. He wouldn't have had it any other way!
Celebrating Simon
2026-05-27: Many friends gathered to Celebrate our dear friend Simon. Was a beautiful evening of stories and fellowship for those that were in attendance. Many old ILM friends and new friends that travelled to be here for Simon, and each other. The worst/best way to share our love of our dear friend. A long time in the planning, but a beautiful evening for all. We love and miss you Sly!
