I received with profound shock the news of the death of our Veteran Administrator Chief Isiaka Adeyanju. Every Surveyor up to 2018 knew Mr. Adeyanju but some of us had the priviledge of working closely with him as a member of the National Executive, i was the formal EXCO as the former Vice President International. Mr. Adeyanju was the life wire of the NIS, a very good Administrator, sharp, committed, knowledgeable, and very hard working. He literally gave his life to the NIS. Quite remarkable was how deftly he engineered the NIS Secretariat from the analogue system to the digital one. He had a Cerebral brain and will remember events that happened many years back and would always get the file in few minutes.
I enjoyed working with him and I rightly believe the NIS benefited so much from his dedication and commitment today. It is quite sad to note that the wife also yielded ghosts within the same period and both of them were buried a few days apart. The NIS ought to celebrate Adeyanju and Sister Karo.
May the soul of Adeyanju and his wife rest in the bosom of the Lord. My profound condolences.

I met Mr Adeyanju at Montgomery Street,Yaba in 1988 when I went there to submit my Student Membership Form of NIS. From that day we became connected and I always reference him to others who wanted to submit their Forms. He never disappointed any one in getting the registration done. I became closer to him when I joined the Council as Oyo State Representative in 2007. Mr Adeyanju was "NIS" to the core because give him any assignment you were sure of having the result in the next few hours. He was very accommodating, friendly and always available to attend to the needs of NIS Members. I enjoyed working with him also when I became the Chairman of Oyo State.
He was a Seasoned Administrator that the history of NIS would never forget.
Adieu Mr Olatunde Adeyanju, continue to rest in peace.

He loved his Coffee
Waoh! *Mr. 'Surv.' Olatunde Isiaka Adeyanju* is gone!!
He was the Administrative Secretary of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and served diligently for well over 30 years.
He was a mobile encyclopedia of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, its History and Administation.
He was a disciplined, seasoned and highly decorated Administrator who lived and breathed NIS.... from Montgomery, Yaba to PC1 in Lagos, to Herbert Macaulay and Utako in Abuja. Even after he left NIS in 2018, NIS never left him.
He served with honour and dignity. I should know. As a young NIS Lagos Officer in the very early 90s and as Assistant Secretary - General of NIS in the mid 90s, which compelled me to serve as Secretary to Exco and to statutory Committees of NIS; we worked closely together and bonded so well that we became family.
Just this January, he invited me to the 8th day Fidau prayers for his 95 year-old Late Mother in Lagos.
He was a great family man who loved his children.
He carried himself with confidence. He was always appropriately dressed for the occasion.
Mr. Adeyanju poured his all into everything he did in NIS.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

The news of Baba Adeyanju’s passing is both staggering and heartbreaking. I was fortunate to work closely with him while organizing the Olumide Memorial Lecture (OML) in 2018 and 2019, especially in drafting correspondence; his steady wisdom and quiet professionalism were gifts to everyone involved. He was a distinguished administrator and a warm, principled man; his presence uplifted us, and his absence leaves a deep void. We only recently grieved the loss of his beloved wife, making this moment all the more poignant. Still, we submit to God’s will and lift up his children and family in prayer, asking for comfort and strength in this difficult hour.
Baba Adeyanju! “adieu”. May your soul rest in peace until that perfect day.

We first met in 1990… in Kano, at an AGM marked by tension, controversy, and defining moments. Yet, from that unlikely beginning, something remarkable was born.
What started as a connection between a seasoned administrator and a young student surveyor grew into a bond forged by shared passion, conviction, and an unshakable belief in the future of our Institution.
Over the years, that relationship blossomed. It deepened when I served on Council, and reached its finest expression during my time as Secretary General of the NIS. That period… our own Bonny and Clyde era… was one of courage, bold reforms, and meaningful impact. We challenged the norm. We made changes that mattered. We built something enduring.
And I say this with all sincerity, I could not have done any of it without you. For that, I will remain forever grateful.
Mr. Adeyanju, you gave your all to the NIS. Not just your time… not just your intellect… but your very life. Your loyalty, your love, and your passion shaped generations. The profession stands today on foundations you helped lay, often quietly, often sacrificially.
I remember the late nights… the early mornings… the long phone calls filled with ideas, debates, laughter, and purpose. Even after you left official office, those moments never stopped. That connection never faded.
And now… it is painful to accept that we will no longer have those conversations face to face.
But why, Mr. Adeyanju… why leave without a goodbye?
Yet, who are we to question God?
So we take solace where we can, in prayer, in gratitude, and in the duty to keep your legacy alive. We ask God to receive your gentle soul, and we commit ourselves to ensuring that your contributions will never be forgotten.
I will miss you deeply.
Our loss… is truly Heaven’s gain.
On behalf of a grateful profession, I say thank you.
Thank you for your life.
Thank you for your service.
And thank you to your family, for sharing you with us.
May your dear soul rest in perfect peace.
You are gone… but you will never, ever be forgotten.

My first encounter with him in 2004 left a lasting impression on me—an impression that has remained consistent and unchanged to this very day. From that very moment, he stood out as a remarkably approachable individual, someone who made it easy for others to relate with him regardless of status or background. He carried himself with a calm and welcoming disposition that naturally drew people closer.
What struck me most was his ability to listen—truly listen. He was not one to interrupt or dismiss opinions; rather, he gave thoughtful attention to others, weighing their words with patience and understanding. This rare quality made him not only respected but also deeply valued by Surveyors.
In his administrative role within the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), he demonstrated a high level of courtesy and professionalism. His conduct was always measured, respectful, and guided by a strong sense of responsibility. He handled matters with tact and integrity, ensuring that both the institution and its members were treated with dignity.
His life and service have left an enduring mark, and his legacy will not be forgotten. At this moment of loss, I pray that the Almighty Lord will grant comfort and strength to his family, friends, and the entire surveying community. May we find peace in the memories of his life.

To those of us that met Mr Adeyanju while growing up in the Institution, he was an encyclopedia of every information in NIS. An astute administrator, loving, humble, kind and hardworking man he was. He knew NIS more than many Surveyors. While some of us were still trying to get in touch with you and commiserate with you on the loss of your wife(one of us),you also passed away. What a double tragedy! Our consolation is that both of you are in a better place now.
