James Clayton Hollis, born December 5, 1948, died on October 23, 2026. He made his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and lived a life shaped by hard work, skill, and devotion to the people and passions that mattered most to him.
James was the son of Lucy Jean Ingram and James Clayton Hollis Sr., and he grew up with his brothers, Mike and Owen, and his sisters, Jetti, Mary, Arvazenia, and Jospehin. He served in the military and later built a life marked by labor and talent. He spent many years driving the countryside as a truck driver and rebuilding transmissions for a living, continuing that work at home after retiring at 65 in the shop he built on the land he shared with his wife in McLoud, Oklahoma.
He shared a deep and lasting bond with his late wife, Betty Annette Hollis. They married on February 26, 1996, and spent their years together as best friends, fishing, traveling, and spending time with their family. James also built and raced his own race car, restored his dream car, a 1950 Ford, and held a pilot’s license, adding to a life already full of remarkable abilities.
James is remembered by his children, Sylena King, Robert Brown, Fred Brown, Amber Butcher, Jimi Hollis, Michael Hollis, Mary Alison, Jennifer Prejean, and Anjela Dungan; his grandchildren Laryssa Brown, Mason Brown, Coltan Slaven Brown, Brailen Singleton, Ronnie Hilton, Audrey Clark, Lucas Clark, Brayden Linger, Michael Jr., Matthew Hollis, Tuesday Hollis, Samantha Hollis, Marissa Hollis, Samantha Miller, and Gage Foster; and by several more grandchildren whose names are unknown, along with more than a dozen great-grandchildren.
He was also a father figure to Marie Stevens, Jason Hall, and Angela Brown, and helped raise his grandson Jared Michael Brooks like a son.
He is remembered as a man who never met a stranger and whose kindness and generosity were reflected in the way he lived and worked. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the love he gave so freely to his family. James Clayton Hollis will be held in loving memory and missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
