Burton approached life with the curiosity of both a classicist and an engineer, never losing his desire to understand how things worked and how they might work better. After thoroughly beating the odds, and surviving and thriving longer than anyone believed was possible except himself, Burton B. Wright III accepted Jesus' personal invitation into heaven, and passed away peacefully at the home he loved, with his beloved wife and son by his side on September 28th 2026.

Burton B. Wright III lived a life defined by curiosity, intellect, adventure, family and an enduring desire to understand how things worked—and, whenever possible, to make them work better.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Burton and Elizabeth Wright, Burton grew up in Kingston, the oldest of five boys. He graduated from Webb School of Knoxville and Washington and Lee University before moving to Lexington, Kentucky, where he earned a master’s degree in Classical Languages from the University of Kentucky. I first met Burton while serving with him on the BGSL Board of Directors. We had many long conversations covering many topics. I greatly valued his knowledge and opinions. But, above all, I valued Burton’s friendship. Take a rest buddy, we’ll talk again soon.
