My favourite memories of Bernd are the countless moments of laughter we shared. He was always ready for a joke, no matter how unconventional or spontaneous it was. With him, you could get up to the sort of harmless mischief you simply couldn't imagine doing with anyone else. He had a wonderful sense of humour and never took life more seriously than necessary. What I loved most was his openness. He was always willing to try something unusual, embrace the unexpected, and turn an ordinary day into an unforgettable adventure. Nothing embarrassed him, nothing frightened him, and he was never too proud to join in. There was only ever one Bernd. His warmth, his humour, his courage to be himself, and his unique spirit made him truly irreplaceable. I know I will never meet anyone quite like him again.
