a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 17, 2026, on his 61st birthday, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 17, 1965, in Acuitzeramo, Michoacán, Mexico, Refugio dedicated his life to nurturing his family and creating a home filled with laughter and warmth. He moved to Salinas, California, where he continued to share his passion for life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Refugio was a devoted spouse to Maria Enriqueta Cortez, and a proud father to his daughters, Wendy and Gabriela. His love extended to his cherished grandchildren, with whom he formed special bonds that will be treasured forever. He is also survived by his loving siblings, nieces, and nephews, all of whom carry the spirit of his kindness and generosity in their hearts. Refugio’s legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to inspire his family for generations to come.

A funeral service will be held on March 9, 2026, at Healey Mortuary, followed by a mass at Iglesia Cristo Rey on March 10, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory, honoring the spirit of giving that Refugio exemplified throughout his life.
